WB11 - Combined Closing Plenary

Tuesday, November 7 from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM | West Ballroom « Back

Abstract Text:

Design for Good: The Upcycle To close out an inspirational day of summit sessions, William McDonough, FAIA, Int. FRIBA, will speak to advancing sustainable communities through the Cradle to Cradle® mission of encouraging the creation of a wholly positive impact on the planet. McDonough will present ideas and examples of designing for inter-generational benefit. He will ask the audience to change the way they see the world around them and to actively rethink the way that they design. Real world examples will showcase how natural systems can create solutions and, at the same time, how humans can act as tools for nature. McDonough will touch on the Cradle to Cradle® philosophy of a quality-based framework for understanding how we design into biological or technical use cycles, which can be returned to soil or upcycled endlessly through clean water, renewable energy and social fairness. The way we design, manufacture, distribute and upcycle in a circular economy, is nothing short of transformative as it empowers a positive future for all.

Learning Objectives:
