WB07 - Water-Energy-Food Nexus, Powered by Pecha Kucha

Tuesday, November 7 from 1:15 PM to 2:15 PM | 204AB « Back

Abstract Text:

As the world population continues to rise above 7 billion, the challenges of eradicating poverty and hunger and providing everyone with access to clean water increase in scale and urgency. What’s more, these challenges and their solutions are inextricably linked: agriculture is the top consumer of global freshwater resources, and more than a quarter of global energy expenditures are for food production and supply. Our ability as a global community to develop long-term solutions to these issues requires a robust understanding of the water-energy-food nexus and opportunities to leverage the complex interconnections among these industries. Equipped with an understanding of water-energy-food nexus, we can make more informed choices at home, work and play to sustain our resources and ensure we can provide for future generations. This session comprises two, one-hour segments of four-speakers who will deliver perspectives in a lively, “Pecha Kucha” format. The first segment is titled “Rising to Meet 21st Century Drinking Water Challenges” and the second is titled “Water-Energy-Food Nexus.” Pecha Kucha 20x20 is a presentation format where speakers show 20 images, each for 20 seconds each (invented by architects in Tokyo). It’s a fun and quick way to deliver information.
