CA05 - Co-create Innovation; A New Generation of Affordable Housing

Tuesday, November 7 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM | 258A « Back

Abstract Text:

This session will engage attendees in a collaborative process to better address systemic barriers to healthy, high-performing, sustainable, resilient, and affordable housing. The radical acceleration of housing innovation will be spurred by aligning, leveraging, and open sourcing intellectual assets and will significantly benefit human and natural systems’ health, as well as improve affordable housing organizations’ operations and financial strength. Successfully addressing the systemic challenges impeding innovation can only be accomplished by a network of innovators. Developer owner participation grounds this work, forcing solutions to be relevant, replicable and economically responsible. The flash charrette will model the application of the collaborative process used to identify and breakdown barriers (cost, availability, expertise, knowledge, etc.) faced in the field of affordable housing. Session attendees will participate in the creation of information by actively participating in a topic based (energy, water, resilience, health, etc.) working session. The expertise present will be honored and harnessed to address current barriers to innovation free of project specific requirements. As leaders and practitioners in affordable housing, green building and health, they will be introduced to a problem, and work collectively to build a common holistic understanding and co-solve barriers to innovation at the leading edge of practice.
