EL15 - UL Presents: The Health & Wellness Lottery – How Green Building Helps You Hit the Jackpot in Human Health

Wednesday, November 20 from 10:15 AM to 11:15 AM | Booth L2023 « Back

Abstract Text:

Green building rating systems are known to address concerns about resource use. However, increasingly they are addressing human health and wellness concerns related to material selection, indoor environmental quality, and safety. The selection of products, including building materials, furnishings, and finishes is cited as a primary strategy toward sustainability because they influence a number of critical criteria, from indoor air quality to ergonomics and material transparency. The most prevalent green building rating systems -LEED, WELL, and Fitwel- as well as a growing number of procurement programs like that of the City of San Francisco, are leveraging product selection to support human health and wellness. In this live unscripted presentation, experts on procurement and green building rating systems will literally “draw” by lottery a product type, criteria, and rating system and discuss the latest challenges, related legislation, and best practices for product selection. The audience will gain an understanding of how product selection impacts occupant health and wellness, best practices for evaluating and selecting products, and some of the latest rating system criteria and legislation related to these products.
