C03 - Innovative Design Meets Effective Waste Management

Wednesday, November 20 from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM | B214 « Back

Abstract Text:

This session will address how to create innovative building designs which also meet requirements for sustainable material management solutions.By taking this in-depth look at the “lifecycle” of designing a space, from planning to operational use, and how sustainability can be infused, valuable insight can be gleaned on how this will impact the use of space once in operation, to function in a way to best support client sustainability goals and how it can help clients achieve LEED v4 or v4.1 certifications. The value in taking this approach can help to support business growth as well as help to support USGBC certification. With a focus on new and existing building and operational sustainability, this session also provides key information on how effective recycling programs in LEED v4 or v4.1 BD+C & ID+C and solid waste management with LEED v4 or v4.1 O+M. The session will also provide information into the TRUE zero waste and SITES v2 key contribution to reduce, reuse and recycle programs in sustainability.

Learning Objectives:

Demonstrate a deep understanding of architectural design, the key components required for effective solid waste management programs, and identify how a successful synergy of these two concepts is achievable.

Describe the negative impact ineffective planning and design of waste management programs has on the client.

Demonstrate how taking the synergies between recyclables and solid waste management into consideration adds value for new design projects, growing their business, and supporting LEED and TRUE to promote these certifications.

Describe how effective waste management program design can support the LEED v4 or v4.1, TRUE, and SITES v2 certifications for clients.
