This tour will feature three breweries in Chicago that are brewing beer in sustainable environments. These breweries are focusing on energy efficiency within their buildings, recycling and composting their spent grain, and creating partnerships with their communities and local farms. Come check out a greener way to make beer!

Learning Objectives:

Discuss the economic impact of microbreweries in under-resourced communities and the impact of creative placemaking through taproom programming.

Discover how an anaerobic digester works, and how organic waste from breweries can be managed.

Explain how to recycle and reuse spent grain and organic waste from a brewery.

Explore energy efficiency and alternative energy strategies in breweries.
