Abstract Text:

This is a tour of theMART, the world's largest commercial building and a LEED Gold-certified wholesale design center. The tour will demonstrate how theMART achieved LEED, Fitwel, and RESET certifications, enabling the historic landmark to perform as a modern structure. The tour will feature tenant showrooms geared toward WELL Building certification, including furniture manufacturers Allsteel and Gunlocke, and floor coverings company Milliken.

Learning Objectives:

Identify opportunities for commercial real estate firms to apply sustainability principles to a large, multi-tenant historic office buildings.

Describe how healthy building design and efficient operations can contribute to LEED, Fitwell, RESET, and other such certifications.

Identify strategies for obtaining WELL certification as a tenant in a historic building, including challenges faced and how these challenges were overcome.

Explore elements of a sustainable building interior--from furniture and flooring to indoor air quality monitoring--that correlate with occupants' health and well-being.
