Abstract Text:

This is a tour of theMART, the world's largest commercial building and a LEED Gold-certified wholesale design center that spans two city blocks in downtown Chicago. The tour will demonstrate how the building achieved LEED, RESET, and Fitwel certifications, enabling the massive landmark to perform as a modern structure. The tour of theMART, formerly known as the Merchandise Mart, will feature tenant showrooms including those of Allsteel, Gunlocke, and Milliken. Allsteel and Gunlocke, two office furniture manufacturers co-located in one showroom, are pursuing WELL certification under the Retail Pilot. The showroom tour will demonstrate how space, workstation design, and lighting can affect occupant health, supported by ergonomic office furniture and non-toxic materials. Down the hall, Milliken’s showroom highlights flooring products such as cushion-backed carpet tiles made with non-hazardous ingredients. As a company, Milliken has committed to WELL certification for its showrooms and offices.
