Abstract Text:

The new Sunset Ridge School and Plainfield Park District Recreation Center are exemplary projects of the efforts by communities around Chicago to reduce consumption and increase performance while achieving Net Zero and Passive House status through the use of innovative materials and technologies.

Learning Objectives:

Describe the criteria required to earn Passive House Certification and Source Zero Certification.

Identify a combination of building elements able to control energy consumption, solar heat gain, and meet net zero goals.

Explore how to track energy loads through energy monitoring systems, and how to shift energy loads from burden to investment in a buildings envelope.

Assess the processes required during construction to achieve the require certification thresholds.
