TF10 - The Solar Cat Tour!

Friday, November 16 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM | Tour Meet Desk « Back

Abstract Text:

In Chicago environmentally friendly environments are not just for humans! Come and learn how cats can teach us about solar energy concepts, by visiting two newer cat shelters in the city; Harmony House, a LEED Platinum, Net Zero Energy Shelter and the recently opened daylit TreeHouse Humane Society.

Learning Objectives:

Explore the requirements of achieving the platinum level of LEED and Net Zero Energy for this unique building type.

Explain what James Augustyn so eloquently stated in his The Solar Cat Book in 1979: "all one has to do is view a cat sunning itself to see they are years ahead of man in solar knowledge".

Discuss strategies that go beyond the building to keep this animal population in balance in urban setting through the Treehouse Foundation’s Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) and Cats at Work programs.

Articulate the lessons learned when mixing cats and coffee at Chicago’s first Cat Café.

Learning Level:
