Jim Walker was appointed the Director of Sustainability for the University of Texas at Austin in April, 2009. The appointment furthers the institution's commitment to a greener campus and to integrating sustainable practices into daily operations and curriculum. He works closely with the President's Sustainability Steering Committee and meets frequently with on- and off-campus stakeholders to promote existing sustainability efforts and identify new opportunities for collaboration. Jim is originally from Oregon and accidently moved to Austin in 1992 working as a carpenter. He was soon introduced to sustainability by Pliny Fisk and Gail Vittori at the Center for Maximum Potential Building Systems, and soon after by Lars Stanley, AIA and Girard Kinney, AIA.
