Global R&D Director at The Dow Chemical Company

Jai brings 25 years of experience in the chemicals and materials industry where he has held a variety of leadership positions spanning technology, marketing and business management. He is currently the Global R&D Director for Dow’s Building and Construction business unit dedicated to delivering sustainable high performance building solutions and energy efficient construction technologies. Prior to this role he was the Director for Material Science & Engineering with Dow’s Core Technology organization developing and deploying capabilities around material architecture, processing technologies, modeling and prototyping. These are leveraged into products ranging from resins, composites, films, foams etc. for end-use applications such as auto, packaging, electronic materials and infrastructure. Prior to joining Dow in 2011, Jai has had 20 years work experiences at Solvay (Cytec Industries business unit) and 3M Company. At Cytec, he led programs toward the adoption of carbon fiber composites and adhesives in aerospace as the Business Segment Leader for Aero-engines. Prior to this, he was the Global Sales and Technical Director and led the Adhesive & Sealant business team, targeting encapsulation solutions for the electro-motors and electronics markets. His other leadership roles have included Technology Director, Marketing Director and Business Management assignments covering a range of product lines including Surfactants, Crosslinkers, Coatings and Plastics additives. Jai began his career in 1992 where he led R&D programs at 3M in Advanced Materials for digital imaging device applications and adhesives. During his career at 3M and Cytec, Jai and his teams have been selected and recognized with the “Circle of Excellence” (CEO award) on four occasions for meeting the highest standards for product innovation and commercialization. Jai is a graduate of Lehigh University (Bethlehem, PA) where he received his Masters and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and Polymer Science & Engineering and earned a B.E. Honors degree in Chemical Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology and Science in Pilani, India. His external recognitions include Awards of Excellence in research and inventions from organizations like Hoechst-Celanese, Pittcon and the American Chemical Society. He has published several papers and presentations at peer-reviewed journals and conferences and holds a number of patent disclosures and invention records.
