Joshua Sloan has a BA in Biology from St. Mary's College of Maryland and a Masters of Landscape Architecture from SUNY that have served him over the past 23 or so years in the fields of landscape architecture, urban design, garden design, and planning. This work is also inspired by his philosophy studies at St. Mary's College of Maryland and Syracuse University. Since 1993, he has worked in both the public and private sectors on zoning codes, regulatory documents, master plans, public art, urban design, infill development, and parks and playgrounds. His Planning and Landscape Architecture Department at VIKA MD specializes in planning, entitlement, urban design, and landscape architecture on transit-oriented and smart growth infill development within the Washington DC Metropolitan Region. This work is done in close collaboration with civil engineers, surveyors, architects, arborists, ecologists, and others to integrate site design elements into multi-functional landscapes. Mr. Sloan has presented, lectured and critiqued studios at ULI, Johns Hopkins University, Georgetown University, the American Planning Association, and the University of Maryland. He is a registered landscape architect, certified planner, LEED AP in Neighborhood Development, and SITES AP and currently serves as Treasurer for the National Capital Area Chapter of the APA. When not at the office or on a site, he spends time with his wonderful wife Veronica traveling, visiting museums and gardens, going to punk rock shows, or attending the opera or theater. In between events and trips, he enjoys reading and keeping up with social media on smart growth and sustainability topics.
