Karyn Kaplan started the University of Oregon Campus Recycling Program as a student in 1991. Since then she has grown the program to be re-branded as the UO Zero Waste Program. Under Karyn's leadership, she worked with student staff in her office, to develop the "Zero Waste Campus Toolkit" which is used widely. Additionally, Karyn worked with Christine Cooley from MUSC, to create a book entitled: "Recycling and Beyond: A college campus primer". Both of these publications are utilized by colleges as important tools for assisting colleges in implementing zero waste programs. Karyn currently serves on the USZWBC College and University Technical Council, has served as a past board member of Recyclemania and was the workshop Chair for the College and University Recycling Coalition for over 10 years. Karyn's work includes over 20 local, state and national awards.
