Chris Schaffner, PE, LEED Fellow is founder and President of The Green Engineer, Inc. a sustainable design consulting firm located in Concord, MA. He has 30 years of experience in the design of building systems with a focus on energy efficiency and sustainability. He holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from M.I.T., and is a registered professional engineer in Massachusetts, California and Vermont. A long time promoter of sustainable design, Chris was a charter member of the US Green Building Council’s (USGBC) LEED Faculty(TM), training more than 10,000 building industry professionals in the use of the LEED Rating System since 2001. He is a currently an elected member of the USGBC Advisory Council, as well as a volunteer and Incoming Chair on the LEED Steering Committee. He previously served on the USGBC Board of Directors, as Chair of the Energy and Atmosphere Technical Advisory Group (TAG) and LEED Advisory Committee, and as a member of the Indoor Environmental Quality TAG, among other volunteer roles with the USGBC. He also is part-time faculty at Northaesten University in their Sustainable Building Systems program. Chris and his team work with architects, engineers, and building owners to help create buildings that use less energy, are healthier, and better for the environment than standard practice. The Green Engineer, Inc. is employee owned, became a Certified B Corp in 2011, and is also a Massachusetts Benefit Corporation. In 2018 The Green Engineer, Inc. was recognized by B Labs as “Best for the World” for their environmental impact, relation to workers and overall performance.
